What is a naturopath?

A naturopath places emphasis on preventative medicine and takes a wholistic approach to health problems and disease, treating the whole person rather than the symptoms. Naturopaths believe there is a crucial relationship between the body, mind and spirit.

In practice, naturopaths perform lifestyle analysis, laboratory testing, nutritional and dietary assessments, metabolic analysis and other evaluative procedures. They are trained to use a wide variety of natural methods which involve the individual in the healing process.

Naturopathy is based upon a belief in the body's innate natural ability to heal itself when given an appropriate internal and external healing environment. Naturopaths work in a complementary way with other health professionals.

Why do people come to Fernhill Wellbeing Centre?

People come to our centre for many reasons. Some come for symptomatic relief. ie they want something natural to relieve their symptoms but are not really interested in making lifestyle changes or addressing the causes. Others come because they want to relieve symptoms and address the causes of their current health challenge. Yet others come because they want to improve their current health and address causes but in addition they want to reach their highest health potential.

Whatever category you fall into we will work with you at that level, however we hope that during your time with us you will come to understand the importance of addressing the causes of your health challenges.

We also hope that you will come to understand the benefits and experience reaching your highest health potential.

What does “addressing causes” mean?

Let me give you an example. Fred’s favourite shady tree is looking a bit sick. Its leaves are turning brown and drooping. He consults a tree specialist who tells him to go down to the hardware store, buy a can of green paint and paint the leaves green. This should fix the problem he says. Now I’m sure you would agree this is ridiculous. It is obvious that the problem is the tree is not getting enough water, or nutrients or the position isn’t right etc.

It is interesting that in our own bodies so many people are quick to “paint their leaves green” and slow to address the root causes of the problem. The quick, symptom relief approach is not sustainable and long term affects the quality of our lives.

What does reaching your highest health potential involve?

Reaching your highest health potential involves:

  • improving your health and quality of life by addressing causes and seeking long term solutions to your health challenges.
  • making health a major priority in your life and understanding that without good health all other areas of your life such as work, relationships, earning potential, leisure, may be affected.
  • learning how your body works and how to restore natural balance.
  • taking responsibility for your health and together with the support of our team make long term lifestyle changes.
  • the desire to feel vitality, happiness, fulfilment, passion and balance in all areas of your life.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to get out exactly what you put in.

Natural laws always work, just like gravity. Reducing sugar and caffeine, eating more wholesome foods, identifying hidden food intolerances, getting more effective rest and regular exercise, managing stress and the thoughts you think, balancing the body, mind and spirit don’t sometimes work, they always work.

When you live inadequately, there is no escaping the consequences. When you live well, you are constantly receiving the fruits of your own good actions.
